A king is born: Vadodara gets a Gaekwad in Samarjitsinh
Vadodara got its new Gaekwad on Friday as the 45-year-old scion of Gaekwad family, Samarjitsinh, was crowned in a traditional ceremony at Lakshmi Vilas Palace in the Gujarat city.Samarjit, the only son of Ranjitsinh Gaekwad, the former king of Vadodara, became the natural successor to the throne after his father's death on last May.
The glittering ceremony, attended by family members and friends, took place at 9 am. It involved the royal couple sitting on a silver seat - bhadrasan - and performing religious rites.
Later, Samarjitsinh's sister Alaukikaraje applied rajtilak on his forehead with a family's gold coin dipped in vermilion.
After the ceremony, the royal couple visited Bhagyeshwar temple within the palace, Siddhivinayak temple in Dandiya Bazaar and Khandoba Temple, which houses the royal deity, to seek blessings.
